TOWARDS HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
Remembering in the time of Gaza
Milan, January 19, 2025 - 3 pm
Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, viale Pasubio 5

It has been over a year since Hamas’ aggression and Israel’s open war against the Palestinians. This meeting is meant to be a moment to share information and reflection, in an attempt to broaden the world of "Jewish voices" who disagree with Israeli politics and to affirm that a small part of the Italian community is among them, as well as to increase engagement with the media to encourage more discussion of the subject. We will reflect on the use of memory and the weaponization of the word antisemitism, platforming the voices of those who seek dialogue.
Given that the degenerations of the Israeli government have compromised its democracy, we will try to talk about the situation not only from a theoretical point of view, but also by listening to the opinions of Israelis and others who have lived in Israel for a long time.
The remembrance of the Shoah is part of a larger memory which also includes that of the Palestinians.
The meeting is organized by Maiindifferenti – Jewish Voices for Peace, a network which as early as January 27, 2024, a few months after October 7 and the subsequent attack on Gaza, wrote an appeal against the actions of the Israeli government. This year, as we again approach the observance of January 27, Holocaust Remembrance Day, after the crescendo of violence and massacres and after the continuous accusations of antisemitism aimed at those who dare to dissent from the policies of the Israeli government, we feel the need to open a moment of discussion and reflection.
Through in-person speeches at the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation – viale Pasubio 5 in Milan, on January 19, 2025, at 3:00 pm – and remote connections from Israel, we want to bring to the public's attention the importance of rigorous discussion, which is essential to avoid the abuse of keywords, and the consequent impoverishment and mortification of Jewish culture.
